The mountains

Vitosha is one of the symbols of Sofia and the closest site for hiking, alpinism and skiing and it is great opportunity for a day walk.

Rila is the highest mountain range of Bulgaria and the Balkans mainly known as a place with unique preserved nature and it is a paradise for the lovers of the outdoor activities. About 100 kilometers from Sofia, in Rila Nature Park is situated Rila Monastery. Founded in the 10th century, the Monastery is regarded as one of Bulgaria's most important cultural, historical and architectural monuments and is a key tourist attraction for both Bulgaria and Southern Europe.
